Villa of San Pedro Alejandrino was founded in the early 17th century by a
Catholic priest in honor of the Spanish martyr Pedro Godoy. It is located in Santa Marta,
Colombia.
Historical Facts
The South American hero and liberator, Simón Bolívar, spent his last days
here until his death in 1830.
An internal garden is situated within the main house, which is divided into
13 quarters or rooms, including the Oratorio or Chapel, Main Room, and the Alcove.
Adjacent to the villa is a botanical garden, which houses many interesting
plant species belonging to tropical dry forests. A statue of Simón Bolívar by sculptor Pedro
Montarsolo stands at the center of the garden.
Today the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino stands as a museum and hosts many
temporary exhibitions. Also its garden was turned into a botanical garden.
